For your Peru-sal….

We’ve been planning this trip to Peru, and Machu Picchu, since last fall. So, you can imagine our surprise when we found out a WEEK BEFORE WE LEAVE that the travel agency failed to secure a trail permit for one of us. After a downward spiral of emotions and thinking that this was going to be the worst trip ever, my brother ever so eloquently, reminded me that even our Plan B would still involve vacationing in Peru. After a weekend of research, and planning, and letting go, we have come up with our Plan B. And Plan B looks pretty great. And I feel excited about the trip again.

I am not flexible, preferring to have things planned out. Even my seemingly spontaneous decisions have probably been considered and options weighed. So, this change in plans was a struggle. But, it brought back some of my favorite memories from my trip last year to Iceland with Anne-Marie. And the uncertainty that comes with traveling. And also, the joy that comes with allowing trips to unfold before you.

We still have 5 sleeps before we leave for Lima. I haven’t finished unpacking from my move, and I’m pretty sure I have some gear in one of those boxes. Figure out what to pack. Handle the work stuff. And then take off for 12 days – the LONGEST vacation I’ve ever taken! Hooray!

So, here’s to the next few days, and figuring it all out along the way. And if you have any Peruvian suggestions, let me know!
