Do you ever have those days where you wake up, and things just feel off? That was my week. The days were long. The weather rainy. And I was off.
So, in a valiant attempt to crawl out of my funk, I decided to try a new hike I recently became aware of: Blue Hole Falls. And also to scratch #4 of my #35 new things to try this year!
It really is amazing how healing being in nature can be. It just sort of centers you. Well, at least it does for me. Walking among the trees, with all that space and damn fresh air, the weight of the day has room to escape. And all that’s left is peace.
Isaiah 55:12 – You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
The hike is a little more than 2.5 miles. And so worth it. It has two waterfalls for you, but today, I’m only talking about Blue Hole Falls. Because, it’s incredible! There’s an observation deck when you get to the falls, but if you bypass the deck, you can tiptoe, gingerly, over the roots and wet rocks to get to the falls themselves.
Once there, and now this is important, strip down and jump in. Do not, I repeat, do NOT dip your foot in to test the temperature of the water because it may cause you to question whether or not you’ll actually make the plunge.
The water was frigid! But refreshing. And immediately brought with it childlike laughter and life. Being in this natural swimming hole, which, by the way, is very different from being in nature’s hot pot in Iceland, you can’t help but be awed by the world! And in awe of how great your life is. I mean, I just jumped into a stinkin’ pool of water! With a waterfall flowing into it. In Georgia?!
Life can be funny. So can God. And He’s got impeccable timing. And I’m thankful that he saved this little treat for me today. I’m thankful that he turned my lull into an opportunity to count blessings. And I’m thankful that he gave me a sense of curiousity for the world.
Page came with me on today’s adventure. Now my car smells like a wet dog.
Hoping you found your little slice of heaven this weekend!
And for a recap of the #35newthings I’m doing this year:
